My experience with the people in my hall
by Freeandclear ini've been awake now for about 6 months i'd guess and a member here for a couple of weeks.
it's been eye opening to read other peoples experiences on here and i appreciate all of you.
i've noticed in many, seemingly most, of your comments that you were not treated well at your hall or you have had very negative experiences in the "org" so i thought i'd like to share mine.. in all my time as a jw i have to say for the most part i always loved the people.

As the slander begins they will soon smell the blood in the water and even the closest friend will badmouth you. Its what they have to do to justify remaining in the cistern that is the WT Org. -

Your Favorite Poetry
by compound complex inthank you, dear friends, for expressing your thoughts today on the importance of the arts in your lives.
many years ago, a number of threads were devoted to poetry, literature, even english grammar.
rather than resurrect an old thread -- usually with zero results -- i would like to introduce a new post, asking you to add some of your favorite verse.

"The Strain of Mercy" by Fred Chappell from Family Gathering
The Strain of Mercy
Aunt Agnes takes it all in stride:
Uncle Einar's boorishness,
Cousin Lilia's need to hide,
Cousin Willoughby's sordid mess
He thinks is a "bohemian life,"
Aunt Alicia's wandering wits,
What Uncle Lewis did to his wife,
The way that Uncle Nahum sits
In his creepy corner and calculates,
Aunt Wilma's plans for sweet revenge,
Cousin Hubert in dire straits,
The inevitable and dreaded change
Coming to young Elizabeth,
Cousin Ellie's hordes of mates,
Uncle Ozzie's fear of death.
She recognizes what we are,
Yet holds us in affection
As steadfast as the morning star,
As if our faults had no connection
With the persons we are within.
She doesn't pretend an ignorance
Of our dark collective sin;
She only believes that circumstance
Has gone against us every one,
That by blind forces we were driven.
We make a painful silent moan
At being so horribly forgiven. -

Some consider his work a bit banal, I think of his work as uncommon beats for the common man.

I would imagine that you should keep it so you can use it as an offering to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. -

Finding the value of God; Isn't it better to believe in a deity?
by Caupon inthe question as to what believing in this entity called god entails is a fairly important question that needs to be answered first.
to me, the key difference between a universe in which god exists versus one where god doesn't lies in the idea of teleology.
in my view, a universe with god entails some sort of process towards an end, an end which can be characterized with words such as bliss and unity and others.

It's Too Late to Return to Jehovah!
by naazira inyes friends it is too late for most of you to return to jehovah's org.
based on the new garlic bread parable in this month's broadcast with the illustration using loaves of bread.
it is obvious that the doors of the arc has been closed shut by jehovah's hand for some of us.. according to the new parable that can be found on jw tv.

I'm surprised they didn't say that those who sin against the HS are, in fact, toast. -

What is more important life or justice?

Seldom is there justice, more often life seems unstoppable even without justice. More important? A law degree. -

Quality of newer membership
by Lostandfound inon a previous post mamacita29 pointed up the low quality of new jw converts.. is the quality falling even more as the society use lower than low meeting, talks, broadcasts etc.. when i was active initially the organisation and standards seemed totally different today.
i have seen hard working intelligent elders fall by death or exhaustion.
the younger generation that came along never really grasped responsibility hence shortage of good elders, never mind the watered down to almost nothing quality of meetings.

From the time I was a kid the literature was very psuedo-intellectual with tomes like "Babylon the Great Has Fallen" and "The Finished Mystery" both in the early 60's. When the Truth book appeared I was 11 years old and it seemed as if it was just condensed, not simple. The reality is that the mass conversion tactic of the "Truth" book became a downward spiral. It has become dumber and dumber to the point where the brochures are pamphlets and the magazines are tracts. There is no longer any intellectual appeal so the recruits are pretty much simpletons without an income seeking to belong to the "happiest people on earth". The odd intellect is probably attracted by a desire for power. -

A philosophical question .... what does the word God mean to you personally ?
by Finkelstein into myself it means to seek knowledge and understanding of are selves and the world in which we live.. unfortunately history has shown whenever one tries to connect to god and of his knowledge through men who say they themselves are connected to god through spiritual wifi ie.
gb members of the jehovah's witnesses for example, one usually ends up finding a accumulation of only man's acquired knowledge.
over thousands of years of trying to connect to a god(s) for help and answers, mankind has eventually relinquished himself to seeking answers through scientific investigative acquired knowledge of the world in which we live in.

God is the result of frustration with dying and all other unknowns. Gotta hang it on something. Also it is fueled by crackpots, and grannies from the U.S. south.
